Frequently Asked Questions

How do you winterize a sprayer?

1. Clean sprayer inside and out. Turn on all the nozzles and spray water through the nozzles to ensure none are clogged.

2. Drain all water from the tank and filter. Check air damper on pump for 35 to 40 psi.

3. Place 2 gallons of Anti-freeze in sprayer for 3-point models. Use full strength Recreational Vehicle antifreeze or if using Automotive type mix 50-50 with water.

4. Turn left and Right controls off and back off on pressure control knob (Counterclockwise) to start pump under no load condition.

5. Gently engage PTO and gradually increase pressure to 20 bars or 300-PSI Pressure.

6. Turn both Left and Right controls on at same time and spray all antifreeze through nozzles. When sprayer stops spraying disengage PTO and machine is prepared for winter rest. Store machine away from direct sunlight to prevent degradation of tank.

7. Additional steps such as disconnecting hoses from manifolds, draining filter, and opening all ball valves are recommended in Northern climates after winterizing.

Filter Leaks

Check the O-ring to make sure it fits tightly against the filter cup. If the O-ring is more than two years old replace it. Put a few drops of water on the O-ring if it is dry, a wet O-ring seals better than a dry one. Avoid overtightning the filter! Tighten with one hand only never use pliers.

What type of oil should I use in my diaphram pump?

30-weight non-detergent oil.

What causes my gauge to fluctuate and the pump to act erratic after I clean the filter, or when the machine has not been used in a while?

This is caused by air in the system. With machine running; Turn the pressure control all the way down and let the pump move liquid under no load conditions, then gradually increase pressure to normal settings.
Note: Small amounts of air will bleed through the hydraulic agitator (if equipped and not clogged).

How much air pressure should be in the pumps surge damper?

Most people use 30 to 40 pounds per square inch (P.S.I.).

How do you recharge the pumps surge damper?

Turn Tractor off and use portable air tank charged with 30-40 P.S.I. (don't use air directly from air compressor unless you turn the compressor off and bleed air down to proper pressure first). When re-charging open a ball valve on the sprayer pump to displace water. If air comes out of ball valve you need new air damper-diaphram.

Should you have to add pump oil every-time you spray?

No - Replace the pump diaphrams and inspect the pump intake for restrictions. A clogged filter or closed inlet gate valve will cause diaphram failure.

The oil in the pump has turned white, what causes this?

Blown pump diaphrams are the most likely cause of problem.

Is there anything I can do to keep my nozzles from clogging?

Rinse out machine with clear water when finished spraying to prevent this. Spraying soapy water through machine will help remove build-up.

Electric Powered Respirators - Frequently Asked Questions

How do you perform fit tests on Powered Respirators?

Turn the respirator on, and flip the Helmet shell upside down. Grasp the end of the blue collar and twist it 1/2 turn to make the Helmet airtight. The blue collar should inflate like a balloon. Then push down on the Blue-collar (towards the Helmet) to push the air out of the Exhaust vents. If tests are satisfactory, the positive overpressure system is working. The positive pressure helps to keep out dusts and fumes. Now put on the Respirator, and open an ampule of Banana Oil (or similar product your Safety Dept. will advise you on product) a few inches away from respirator components. This will help to determine if the system is sealed and working properly. The manufacture recommends filter replacement every 6 months, or whenever the user can taste or smell chemicals.

How do I determine model # of Kasco Helmet System?

Do the Filter Cartridges screw directly into the helmet (Prof 88)
or do the filters screw into a blower mounted on a Belt (K80S)?

I need a new Blue collar, which one should I use?
To order a new blue collar, please specify if you need the 0309038 (This one is for the helmets with exhaust vents on the Helmet Shell), or the 0309079 (collar has exhaust valves built in to the collar).

The battery on my Respirator will not accept a charge, do I need a new battery?
Try unplugging the charger from both the 110-volt mains, and the battery. Wait 20 seconds and plug both connections in. If rebooting doesn't help, check the fuse located inside battery cover.

What filter cartridges are available for a Prof 88?
The 0601023 filters are used for dust, and the 0601047 filters are for mists and vapors.

I need a power cable for my K80S-T9, the owners manual shows a 0309009, has the part number changed?
Yes, the cable is now two separate pieces. The cable itself is a 0309121 and the right angle adapter that plugs into the tractor socket is a 0309123.

I'm looking for a replacement battery for my T-5, I currently use a 0309036 (4-pin) battery. Is this battery still available?
The 0309036 Battery is no longer in production. You need to upgrade to a 0309064 (2-pin) battery. You will also need a 0309057-adapter cable to change over from 4-pin to 2-pin.

Can I use a 110-volt charger on a Prof 88 with the 4-pin connector?
To use the new 110 Volt Battery charger (0105046) on the old style 4-pin Prof-88, you will need either an adapter cable 0309070 -or- change the 4- pin receptacle in the Helmet to a 1603017 (2-pin) receptacle.

Prof 88

The Prof 88 has the blower motors and battery built inside the helmet. When ordering electrical parts for the Prof 88 please note there are differences in electrical systems. The older models have a 4-prong electrical hook-up, while the newer models have a 2-prong connector.

K80S Helmets

If you have a Respirator with the Filters on a blower motor worn at your waist, It is most likely a model K80S. When ordering parts for this style helmet, refer to the helmet and the blower motor. If you have a T8 blower (usually there is a decal on the blower itself) you would have a K80S-T8. Parts such as Visors (1903005), Blue Collars (0309038), and Filters (0601019) are the same on all K80S models. Parts such as Hoses and electrical components vary depending on the model.
